Business Agent

Labor union business agents manage the daily business matters of labor unions and act as liaisons between the union and management during contract negotiations. They manage business affairs for the labor unions that employ them, and inform the media of labor union happenings. Labor union business agents are also responsible for informing employers of workers' concerns.  The title is common in labor organizations in the United States and Canada, uncommon elsewhere.

Union business agents represent the interests of the members of their labor union. They are elected by the members and paid by the union to speak on its behalf to both management and the public. Business agents work at the level of the union local.  Business agents participate in contract negotiations.

A business agent is a title, used in some labor unions, for a leading representative of a local union. It can be abbreviated B.A.  The duties of a business agent may vary greatly from union to union, but in general, a business agent can be expected to safeguard workers' rights under a collective bargaining agreement and act as a liaison to other representatives higher up in the union organization.
